|Description:||Klickitat Valley Health is now accepting applications for a casual Medical Records Clerk. This position does not offer any guaranteed hours per week as hours are dependent upon work volume. Hours can be flexible, generally Monday-Friday, day shift. |
The File Clerk (medical records) performs clerical support functions for the Family Medicine clinic by organizing, filing, scanning, retrieving and storing patient medical records; assigns and records new chart/record numbers; verifies existing record/chart numbers, delivers records/charts, etc. to ensure that the clinic medical records are current and up-to-date. The File Clerk (medical records) works collaboratively with all departments in the use of patient records, which are Protected Health Information (PHI) and may only be viewed or released on a need to know basis.
|Duties:|| Initiates the development of new medical records/charts by using the clinic master patient index system and in the electronic medical record (EMR).|
Files, scans and retrieves patient medical record information for the physician/provider, or for other general use in the clinic.
Ensures medical record availability by delivering records to physician/providers and other Family Medicine staff (authorized to have access to PHI) following clinic policies and procedures.
Scans, maintains, reviews and purges patient medical charts/records in clinic file system location, and ensures accuracy of patient information is retained; follows clinic policy and procedure for record storage.
Prepares face sheets as part of the inputting process of patient information into the electronic medical record (EMR).
May provide medical record information (if authorized) by answering questions and responding to requests for PHI information from patients, physician/providers, law firms, insurance companies, governmental agencies, etc.
Maintains patient confidence and protects clinic/KVH reputation by complying with all regulatory requirements, and following PHI release-of-information protocols.
Maintains work area in a safe, clean and organized manner.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
High school Diploma or equivalent
Basic office skills training with computer, copier, fax, filing system preferred.
At least two (2) year healthcare experience in a hospital or clinic environment preferred.
Requires good reasoning and thinking skills, good judgment and the ability to work with regular supervision.
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of PHI at all times and use discretion in determining who should have access to patient information.
Keen attention to detail and high degree of accuracy imperative for handling medical records.
Deliver excellent customer service to internal and external customers.
Ability to consistently meet quality and accuracy standards; maintain focus and productivity requirements.
Prioritization, time management and organizational skills, with ability to multi-task and be flexible as to the needs of the department.
Good communication skills both oral and written.
Knowledge of basic medical terminology desirable.
Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
Experience with using everyday tools (e.g., email, data retrieval, voicemail, and internet/intranet).
Basic typing skills.
