|Description:||Klickitat Valley Health is now accepting applications for a casual Dietary Specialist to provide back-up coverage for vacations, leaves, sick days and other vacancies. |
This position does not guarantee any specific number of hours per week. Flexibility in scheduling is essential and applicants must have the ability to work varied weekday shifts between 6:00am and 6:00pm and weekend shifts between 6:00am to 6:00pm.
The Dietary Specialist is one who is familiar with all aspects of the Dietary department and carries out the daily responsibilities with an emphasis on teamwork and a commitment to providing exceptional customer service. The Specialist is responsible for learning and performing multiple food service functions including preparing and serving nutritious meals to our patients, visitors and staff. The Specialist must be aware of and adhere to special patient dietary restrictions and Department of Health regulations.
|Duties:||Primary responsibilities include:|
Preparing meals that are palatable and presentable for service to patients, employees and guests
Prepares food/meals using correct technique according to department standards and receipts, ensuring that proper procedures are followed, and that meals are palatable and presentable for service to patients, employees and guests.
Assist with the planning and preparation of requests for special meals and/or events.
Places food servings on plates/bowls and trays for employees and general customers, according to orders, or requests.
Distributes food to patients ensuring that meals are delivered to the correct recipients and that guidelines for special diets are followed.
Examine trays to ensure that they contain required items, including: eating utensils, napkins, and condiments.
May perform cashiering function in the cafeteria to process sales for employees and the public.
Retrieves dirty dishes/utensils for return to kitchen after meals are finished.
Cleans and sterilizes dishes, kitchen utensils, equipment, and kitchen/dining room facilities.
Stocks kitchen and dining room area with condiment supplies, napkins and other paper goods, as needed.
Washes, drys and folds dietary linens for reuse as needed.
Informs manager in a timely manner when supplies are getting low or equipment is not working properly.
Assist with inventory control to meet demand, including unloading freight and stocking kitchen supplies.
Ensures proper and safe use of dietary equipment, including the use of necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Practices appropriate safety precautions to avoid cuts, burns or other types of injury.
Maintains a clean, safe, organized and orderly work station/area.
Performs other duties as assigned.
High school diploma or GED required.
Current Food Handlers Certificate/Card for Klickitat County Health Department.
Able to read and write in English and perform basic math skills as it relates to preparing recipes, cashiering, cleaning chemical ratios and inventory, etc.
Certification as a Food Protection Manager required (for staff who act as the Managers replacement).
Six (6) months food service experience within a healthcare facility preferred.
Experience working with the public in a service-oriented environment preferred.
Demonstrates knowledge of basic food preparation and follow both general and specialized recipes consistent with department practice; meet Food Handler requirements, as well as, follow required food sanitation handling/processing requirements in order to prevent food contamination.
Requires critical thinking skills, ability to make good decisions, listen and accept advice from others, demonstrate maturity and good judgment and the ability to work under general supervision.
Perform various sensory requirements such as: vision, speech, touch, smell, manual dexterity, fine motor skills, etc. in order to prepare safe and healthful food, and minimize any safety situations in the kitchen.
Promote/deliver excellent customer service to both internal (patients and staff) and external customers (visitors and vendors).
Demonstrate positive and effective interpersonal and communication skills with colleagues, patients, families, physicians, volunteers and community.
Work productively, cohesively within a team and resolve conflict/differences in a positive manner.
Work in a stressful/demanding environment and take appropriate action to ensure quality of food service for patient care; ability to cope with the physical demands of the job.
Maintain a calm and composed manner in emergency/stressful situations, taking appropriate action as necessary.
Demonstrate attention to detail, follow oral and written instructions precisely, and maintain a high degree of accuracy in food preparation and sanitation handling; risk of error could result in significant harm or loss.
Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills with ability to anticipate tasks and prioritize assignments.
Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
Experience with using everyday computer electronic tools (e.g., email, data retrieval, voicemail, and internet/intranet).
Adaptability is essential to manage the needs of a department with unpredictable volume and resources.
