Description:The Family Medicine Clinic at Klickitat Valley Health is now seeking an outgoing, friendly Medical Assistant to join their team! The clinic houses nine primary care providers plus several specialty clinics. This position offers 40 hours per week, M-F, day shift, and is eligible for the full-time benefits package including Medical, Dental, Vision, Rx, Long and Short Term Disability, Life Insurance, generous Paid Time Off and Retirement contribution.
Duties: ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITIES (but not limited to): • Collects vital signs and accurately records patient’s chief complaint, symptoms, history, allergies and immunizations in the medical chart or electronic health record. • Collects specimens as instructed by the provider. • Prepares patients for examination and assists provider as needed in the examination of the patient (e.g., hold child for injection, turn patient, hand instruments to physician, etc.). • Obtains, prepares, and sets up supplies and instruments to be used in the care and treatment of patients. • Administers vaccines. • Performs waived testing as allowable by CLIA (e.g., urine dip, blood sugar, rapid strep). • Tracks and routes test results to provider(s) for review, and communicates test results to patient when deemed appropriate by provider. • Reports abnormal values or key information to provider promptly. • Enters all required patient information and clinical data in the electronic medical record (EMR) system to maintain the paperless charting system of the clinic. • Uses the principles of growth and development to assess each patient’s age-specific needs and provides age-specific treatment and care. • Maintains a clean, well-stocked, safe environment for patients and staff. Keeps patient care and utility areas neat and clean. • Answers phone, takes messages, assists provider or other staff as needed. • Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, safety, environmental, and infection control standards. • Participates in departmental and organizational quality management activities. • Cooperates with other personnel to achieve department objectives and maintain good employee relations, interdepartmental objectives, and infection control policies. • Performs other miscellaneous duties as may be assigned.
Qualifications: Minimum Education, Training & Experience (includes licenses or certifications): Education / Licensure: • High school diploma or GED required. • Current Washington State Medical Assistant Certification or Medical Assistant- Registered (MA-C or MA-R), or the ability to obtain within 30 days. • National AAMA certification strongly preferred. • BLS required. Experience: • At least one year recent experience providing direct patient care in an outpatient or acute care medical setting is strongly preferred Skills/Knowledge/Abilities: • Demonstrated knowledge of basic Medical Assisting skills (i.e., taking vital signs, administering vaccines, recognition of abnormal signs and symptoms, etc.); first aid; patients’ rights; universal precautions; infection control; body mechanics; basic medical and nursing terminology. • Ability to anticipate tasks and prioritize assignments. • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision • Demonstrated ability of positive interpersonal and communication skills with colleagues, patients, families and physicians particularly during times of high stress. • Follow oral and written instructions precisely. • Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills. • Keen attention to detail and high degree of accuracy. • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English. • Experience with using everyday computer electronic technology tools (e.g., email, data retrieval, voicemail, and internet/intranet) as well as ability to effectively utilize and enter information in the electronic medical record (EMR). Plus copier and fax. • Proficiency with basic computer programs including Microsoft Word and Excel, and a typing speed of 40+ words per minute. • Ability to promote the delivery of exceptional customer service to both internal (patients and staff) and external customers (visitors and vendors), and work effectively with distraught or agitated individuals. • Ability to work productively, cohesively within a team and resolve conflict in a positive manner. • Adaptability is essential to manage the needs of a department with unpredictable volume and resources.
