Description:Klickitat Valley Health is now accepting applications for a full-time Nursing Operations Supervisor position. KVH is a rural, critical access, public hospital district located in scenic Goldendale, Washington only two hours from Portland along the breathtaking Columbia River Gorge. KVH employs nearly 200 people and is a major employer in the community. KVH offers emergency, acute inpatient care and rehab / extended swing beds as well as a full scope of ancillary services including: Surgery; Diagnostic Imaging; Laboratory; Respiratory Therapy; PT / OT; Home Health / Hospice; Diabetes Management and more. Average inpatient census is 5-8 patients and care is managed 24/7 by Hospitalists. The hospital also owns a busy primary care / urgent care clinic.

The Nursing Admin Team consists of the Director of Nursing Services, Nursing Operations Supervisors (7 days/week), Utilization Review RN, Clinical Informatics RN, Employee Health / Infection Prevention RN, and an Administrative Assistant. The Nursing Operations Supervisors report directly to the DNS. This is an exempt-level position offering 36 hours per week from 0900-2130 three days per week. The Nursing Operations Supervisor is a Registered Nurse (RN) who is responsible for the facilitation of a safe environment and a safe level of nursing care through coordination of interdepartmental services, patient placement, clinical support and information flow. In the absence of administrative management or director level staff, the Nurse Operations Supervisor coordinates contact with outside agencies, public relation activities, policy interpretation, staffing, disaster coordination and general problem solving. The Supervisor meets the requirements of the Acute Care and Emergency department staff RN job descriptions and practices by the Standards and Scope of Practice for the Registered Nurse {Nursing Practice Act (RCW 18.79.010-18.79.902)}.


• Assigns available personnel and makes appropriate modifications during the shift as necessary; plans and coordinates staffing needs for the next shift and assesses the needs for the following shift.
• Coordinates staffing committee in conjunction with front line staff.
• Responsible for monitoring, analyzing and documenting work methods, staff schedules, patient flow and makes appropriate adjustments in conjunction with the DNS to assure quality care and services in the most cost effective manner. Provides a summary report to the DNS after each shift.
• Coordinates and expedites the admission, discharge, and transfer and bed control process assigning beds to admissions and assisting staff in the discharge or transfer process as needed.
• Directs or provides outpatient nursing care and services.
• Demonstrates successful conflict resolution in a timely manner with patients, families, physicians and other healthcare team members. Demonstrates professionalism and consistently models excellent customer service skills.
• Maintains documentation for all patient complaints and grievances. Assist in the resolution of complaints and grievances within the nursing department. Advances patient grievances according to Klickitat Valley Health policy and procedure. Maintains records in accordance with policy and procedure.
• Responsible for utilization review services, discharge planning and EDIE patients after normal business hours, holidays and weekends. Maintains appropriate documentation related to Utilization review.
• Coordinates with the Clinical Informatics Nurse in the use and guidance/instruction of nursing staff of the hospital electronic medical record (EMR) system; as well as support the ongoing development in the delivery of patient care.
• Facilitates the promotion of team work, participates and/or leads and facilitates department process improvement as assigned by the DNS.
• Plans, develops, (or arranges for) and delivers nursing and other clinical education including ongoing CN-A and ED Tech training and yearly mandatory training.
• Ensures completion of incident reports, promptly reports and resolves (if capable) safety hazards; communicates safety hazards to nursing leadership and/or appropriate department head.
• Provides data and input into the performance evaluation process for staff.
• Functions as staff support, acting as staff relief and provides direct patient care when necessary. Performs ED triage as necessary, backfills for sick calls, provides trauma support. Provides assistance to the Acute Care unit as necessary. Arranges for and assist with providing coverage for staff meal and rest breaks.
• Assist or leads special project work teams.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:Education / Licensure:
• Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing with an active RN license in Washington State.
• BLS, ACLS, PALS required; TEAM / TNCC required within 6 months of hire.
• BSN strongly preferred but will accept equivalent experience.
• ICS 100, 200,700 within 3 months; ECS 701; 703; 704; 800 within 6 months.

• Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with little or no supervision.
• Must be self-directed with a willingness to lead by example.
• Ability to cope with physical and emotional demands of a dynamic environment.
• Demonstrated ability of positive interpersonal and communication skills with colleagues, patients, families, physicians and the community.
• Must be able to work in a stressful, fast-paced environment and assign work / delegate as appropriate.
• Must maintain calm and composed in emergency situations, taking appropriate action as necessary.
• Keen attention to detail and high degree of accuracy.
• Experience with using everyday tools (e.g., email, data retrieval, voicemail, and internet/intranet) as well as ability to effectively utilize an electronic medical record (EMR). Functions as a “super user” with the EMR system.
• Ability to promote the delivery of exceptional customer service to both internal (patients and staff) and external customers (visitors and vendors).
• Ability to work productively, cohesively within a team and resolve conflict in a positive manner.
• Adaptability is essential to manage the needs of a department with unpredictable volume and limited staff.

• Minimum three years staff nurse experience with at least one year of supervisory or charge nurse experience.
• Knowledge of clinical and nursing unit function and access to resources both administrative and organizational.
• Must meet staff RN job description requirements.
